Science has not yet produced a consensus about what substances will actually help remove drugs and other toxins from the body. While there are antidotes to drug overdose and poisonings, few of these actually removes the drugs from the system. When the drugs are in the stomach, of course, gastric lavage or stomach pumping may be used, as well as activated charcoal. Detoxers use fruit pectin in a similar way to induce diarrhea and cause drugs hanging out in the digestive tract to leave the system. However, this will only remove a small amount of the drug metabolites in the system as much of the drug metabolites tested for will be in the cells, the blood circulation, and the urine.
